How to add new devices in the Samsung Connect app

The Samsung Connect app provides easy setup for your smart devices and a single convenient app to control them.

Samsung SmartThings devices and many third-party devices that work with SmartThings require a connected SmartThings Hub (or compatible device with SmartThings Hub functionality) in the Samsung Connect app. 

You can connect these devices manually with the steps below. 

  1. Tap My devices and swipe to view your Place
  2. Tap the plus icon in the bottom right 
  3. Tap Add Device Manually
  4. Enter your device's name in the search field or select the device category and brand
  5. Follow the in-app instructions to perform the connection process specific to that device
  6. The app will indicate when the device connects
  7. Tap Edit to rename the device, and tap Done to save the name
  8. Tap Done to complete the setup

 

 

To add a 2017 Samsung device

By simply opening the Samsung Connect app, it can automatically discover certain devices on your network and prompt you to add the device with a simple pop-up window. These devices include compatible Samsung TVs, Audio Visual devices (AV), and Digital Appliances (all of which do not require SmartThings Hub functionality). If the pop-up doesn't appear, it's still easy to add these devices whenever you like.

Follow the steps below to add a new 2017 Samsung device in the Samsung Connect app: 

  1. Tap the plus icon in the bottom right
  2. Wait a moment for Samsung Connect to automatically discover devices on your network
  3. Select the device once it appears under Available devices
  4. Some devices on your local network will be automatically connected and others will require additional steps. Follow the in-app instructions if prompted, for example, entering the PIN that appears on your Samsung TV screen

OR, if your device is not automatically discovered, you can also add the device manually: 

  1. Tap the plus icon in the bottom right
  2. Tap Add Device Manually
  3. Enter your device's name in the search field or select your device's category and brand
  4. Follow the in-app prompts for your specific device

 

To delete devices

There are two ways that devices can be deleted in the Samsung Connect app.

This first method offers the option to delete multiple devices at once. 

  1. Tap My devices
  2. Tap the three dots in the top right
  3. Tap Delete devices
  4. Select the device(s) to be deleted
  5. Tap Delete
  6. Tap Delete again to confirm 
  7. If only a Z-Wave device was selected, the app will prompt you to perform a Z-Wave exclusion on the device. Refer to the device's manual for specific exclusion steps
    Note: If multiple devices are selected, any Z-Wave devices will need to be excluded manuallyINSERT LINK.
  8. Tap Done

 OR

The second method deletes devices on an individual basis.

  1. Tap My devices and swipe to your Place
  2. Tap the three dots in the top right
  3. Tap Edit
  4. Select the device to be deleted
  5. Tap Delete device
  6. Tap Delete again to confirm
  7. For Z-Wave devices, the app will prompt you to perform a Z-Wave exclusion on the device. Refer to the device's manual for specific exclusion steps
  8. Tap Done
