Rules in the Samsung Connect app

With Rules, you can build custom automations to automatically trigger multiple actions, including notification alerts. You can set up Rules to run at certain times on certain days of the week or to trigger when another device reports a certain condition (such as detecting motion).

 

Add a new Rule

In the Samsung Connect app:

  1. Tap the three dots in the top right
  2. Tap Rules
  3. Tap Add Rule
  4. Enter a name for your Rule
  5. If needed, select a Place for the Rule
  6. The app will ask: "When do you want to use this Rule?"
  7. Tap Add Condition
    • Tap At a certain time to select a single specific time or Sunset/Sunrise, and the days of the week
    • Tap During a period of time to select a time window with a specific start date and end date, or the days of the week
    • Tap Based on a device status and the app will prompt you to choose:
      1. A device
      2. The device capability to use (e.g., motion, open/close, temperature)
      3. The device state to use (e.g., no motion vs. motion, open vs. closed)
  8. Tap Add action
    • Select the device(s) to control
      1. Select the device action (e.g., on, off, dimmer level)
    • Select the Mode(s) to trigger
    • Optional: Toggle the switch for Notifications and tap the field below to enter a custom message
  9. Tap Done

 

Example Rule

These instructions will walk you through an example of how to turn on a hallway light when there is motion detected.

In the Samsung Connect app:

  1. Tap the three dots in the top right
  2. Tap Rules
  3. Tap Add Rule
  4. Enter a name for your Rule. In this example, let’s say “Hallway light when motion”
  5. If needed, select a Place for the Rule
  6. Tap Add condition
  7. Tap Device condition
  8. Select your hallway motion sensor device
  9. Tap Motion sensor for the device capability
  10. Tap Motion detected for the device state
  11. Tap Add action
  12. Select your hallway lighting device
  13. Tap On for the device action
  14. Tap Done

 

Edit a Rule

In the Samsung Connect app:

  1. Tap the three dots in the top right
  2. Tap Rules
  3. The app will display your configured Rules
  4. Tap a Rule to edit the automation
    • Tap the minus icon (-) to remove a setting
    • Tap Add actions and follow the in-app prompts to add settings
  5. When finished, tap Save

You can also deactivate or "pause" a Rule by toggling the switch beside it in the list of your Rules to the OFF state. It will not run again until you toggle it ON again.

 

Delete a Rule

In the Samsung Connect app:

  1. Tap the three dots in the top right
  2. Tap Rules
  3. Tap the three dots in the top right
  4. Tap Delete
  5. Select the Rule(s) to be deleted
  6. Tap Delete
  7. Tap Delete again to confirm removal (this cannot be undone)
  8. Tap the back button or Cancel to return to the main Rules list
