What happens when a SmartApp is removed from the Marketplace?

When a SmartApp is removed from the Marketplace, you will no longer be able to find the SmartApp in the Marketplace.

If you currently have a SmartApp installed that is being deprecated, you will not lose the SmartApp. However, if you remove it at a later time, you will not be able to re-install it from the Marketplace. In most cases, links to the source code can be found in the tables above so you can self-publish and install the removed SmartApp as a custom SmartApp in the IDE.

Learn more about self-publishing custom SmartApps in "How to self-publish SmartApps in SmartThings" and “Publishing Code.

Why are SmartApps being removed from the Marketplace?

The Marketplace contents are periodically evaluated to ensure that the SmartApps contained within are up-to-date, relevant, and easy to find. In most cases, there are alternative means for adding the SmartApp. Additionally, functionality may have been replaced by a different SmartApp. For example, many legacy SmartApps have been rendered obsolete by Smart Lighting.

What if I install and self-publish a SmartApp that has been retired from the Marketplace?

As an open-platform, SmartThings provides methods for self-publishing and installing code. However, as this code has been officially deprecated, the SmartThings Community will best be able to help if you need assistance with debugging issues.
