What do I need to use SmartThings?

Using SmartThings is easy! There are really only three things you need to get started:

  1. A SmartThings Hub: the brain of your smart home, connects via Ethernet to your router
  2. An active internet connection for your SmartThings Hub
  3. The SmartThings mobile app: available for iOS and Android (minimum smartphone requirements: iOS 8.1 or greater; Android 4.0 or greater)

Then, you can start adding smart devices to your home.

There are no monthly fees to use SmartThings! In the future, there will be optional premium services available for a low monthly fee, but the core SmartThings experience will remain free.
