Fibaro Motion Sensor

The Fibaro Motion Sensor is a multi-function device that can be used to detect motion and vibration, monitor temperature, and report light levels. This Z-Wave sensor, together with SmartThings, is perfect for monitoring and securing your home. It will literally let you keep an eye on things while you're away.

SmartThings supports both the Fibaro Motion Sensor Z-Wave and Z-Wave plus (or Fibaro 500 series) versions.

To connect the Fibaro Motion Sensor to the SmartThings app

Note: The Fibaro Motion Sensor is supported in the US, UK, and Chile.

In the SmartThings app:

  1. From the Home screen, touch the Plus (+) icon and select Add device
  2. Select Fibaro and touch Motion sensor
  3. Choose a Hub for the device and touch Next
  4. Choose a Room for the device and touch Next
  5. While the Hub searches, press the button three (3) times

 

To reset the Fibaro Motion Sensor

If the Fibaro Motion Sensor was not detected, you may need to reset, or “exclude,” the device before it can successfully connect with the SmartThings Hub. To do this in the SmartThings app:

  1. From the Home screen, touch Menu (Menu icon), and select Devices
  2. Touch the Hub and select More Options (More Options menu icon)
  3. Touch Z-Wave utilities and select Z-Wave exclusion
  4. Press the button three (3) times

When the app indicates that the device was successfully removed from SmartThings, follow the instructions above to connect the device.

 

To connect the Fibaro Motion Sensor in the SmartThings Classic app

From the SmartThings Classic mobile app:

  1. Touch My Home
  2. Under Things, touch Add a Thing at the bottom of your Things list
  3. The app will say Looking for devices…
  4. While the Hub searches, pull the battery tab from your Fibaro Motion Sensor
  • If the battery tab has already been removed, gently twist the sensor to open it, and then quickly press the button on the inside of the device 3 times
  • When the device is discovered, it will be listed at the top of the screen
  • Tap the device to rename it and tap Done
  • When finished, tap Save
  • Tap Ok to confirm

 

To reset the Fibaro Motion Sensor

If the Fibaro Motion Sensor was not detected, you may need to reset, or “exclude,” the device before it can successfully connect with the SmartThings Hub. To do so in the SmartThings Classic mobile app:

  1. Tap the menu (Android) / More (iOS)
  2. Tap the Hub
  3. Tap Z-Wave Utilities
  4. Tap General Device Exclusion
  5. When prompted, gently twist the sensor to open it, and then quickly press the button on the inside of the device 3 times

When the app indicates that the device was successfully removed from SmartThings, follow the first set of instructions above to connect the Fibaro Motion Sensor.
