Marketplace in the SmartThings Classic app




Marketplace in the SmartThings Classic app is where to go to discover new ways to personalize your smart home, from connecting new devices with your SmartThings setup to installing SmartApps that tell your devices to perform all sorts of actions and automations. You can install a SmartApp to turn on the porch light when you arrive home, or another to trigger video recording when motion is detected while you’re on vacation, and that’s just for starters.






To access Marketplace:

  1. Tap Marketplace

To connect a new device:

    1. Tap Marketplace
    2. Under Things, tap a device category (e.g., from Light Bulbs, Locks, Outlets, Thermostats, etc.) to see a list of related SmartThings devices and third-party devices that work with SmartThings
    3. Select your device
    4. Tap Connect Now
    5. The app will indicate that it’s looking for the device
    6. While the Hub searches, perform the connection/inclusion process specific to that device
      • Consult the device's manual for instructions
    7. When the device is discovered, it will list at the top
    8. Tap the device to rename it
    9. Tap


  1. Tap Ok to confirm your paired devices


The above is one of a few methods to connect a new device. You can also connect a device within the Things section of My Home by following these steps:

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Under Things, tap Add a Thing at the bottom of your Things list
  3. Follow the in-app prompts (for more information, read this article)


To install a SmartApp:

  1. Tap Marketplace
  2. Tap SmartApps

Here, SmartApps are organized by category. Select a category to see related SmartApps, including their names and brief descriptions. Select a SmartApp and follow in-app prompts to configure it, and then tap Done.

The SmartThings Recommends category includes Smart Lights. Smart Lights groups automations and common use cases for lights and switches in one convenient place.
