Routines let you instantly trigger customizable actions at different times you choose, like when you’re asleep, awake, on vacation, at the office, out shopping, or back home. SmartThings will remember all the actions you’ve personalised and perform them exactly when you say so, automatically or with a single command.

To access and configure Routines in the mobile app:

1. Tap Automations

2. See the Routines tab

What you can do with Routines

There are four default Routines:

  • I’m Back! : You have returned home (triggers Home Mode)
  • Good Night! : You are going to sleep (triggers Night Mode)
  • Goodbye! : You are leaving the house (triggers Away Mode)
  • Good Morning! : You are waking up and getting ready (triggers Home Mode)

To illustrate: You might want to tap Goodbye! when you leave the house for work. Or, set up Goodbye! to automatically trigger when your mobile presence device exits your geofence. The Goodbye! command can tell SmartThings to adjust your home’s lights, thermostat, and other devices based on which configurations you think are optimal when you’re away from home.

To help your Routines run more intuitively, Good Morning!, Good Night!, and Goodbye! are set by default so they will not automatically run in Away Mode. This is meant to limit unnecessary automated actions while you're not at home. You can always edit these settings at any time in the mobile app, or read more about Routine Defaults.

Trigger a Routine at any time in the mobile app by tapping the Routine’s icon in the Routines view. The app will confirm that the Routine command was performed.
