Smart Lights

Smart Lighting groups automations for lights and switches in one convenient place, making it easy to organise and customise automations through an interface tailored for you. Smart Lighting gives you a clear, straightforward path to automating your devices, and you will be presented with only relevant configurations and settings based on your choices.


To install Smart Lights:

  1. Tap Marketplace
  2. Tap SmartApps
  3. Tap SmartThings Recommends
  4. Tap Smart Lights by SmartThings

You will then be prompted to create a new lighting automation.


To access Smart Lighting after installation:

  1. Tap Automations
  2. Tap SmartApps
  3. Tap Smart Lights

Smart Lighting will only show up once in your list of SmartApps, regardless of whether you install one or one hundred lighting automations. You can always open Smart Lighting to see and configure individual automations.


To set up a new lighting automation:

From the Smart Lighting main view:

  1. Tap New Lighting Automation
  2. Tap to set Which lights do you want to control?
  3. Check the light(s) or switch(es) you want to control, then tap Done
  4. Tap to set What do you want to do?
  5. Choose from the following to control the light:
    • Turn On
    • Turn Off
    • Turn On & Set Level (brightness)
    • Turn On & Set Color
  6. If prompted:
    • Configure Color
    • Configure Dimmer Level
  7. Tap Select trigger (Android) / How do you want to trigger the action? (iOS)
  8. Choose from the following triggers:
    • Motion
    • Open/Close
    • Acceleration (Android) / Active/Inactive (iOS)
    • Lock (Android) / Locked/Unlocked (iOS)
    • Presence (Android) / Arrival/Departure (iOS)
    • Switch (Android) / Switch Turned On/Off (iOS)
    • Button (Android) / Button Pressed/Held (iOS)
    • Illuminance
    • At Sunrise
    • At Sunset
    • At a Specific Time
    • When Mode Changes (Android) / Mode Changes (iOS)
  9. As prompted:
    • Choose and configure the trigger device(s)
  10. Configure additional options for when the automation occurs:
    • Only during a certain time
    • Only on certain days of the week
    • Only during certain Modes
  11. When finished configuring, tap Next
  12. The Automation name is a name that was automatically built based on the automation’s parameters. Toggle Edit automation name to enter a custom name
  13. Tap Done

This completes configuration of a new lighting automation.


Additional options:

To uninstall a single lighting automation:

  1. From the Smart Lighting main view, select the lighting automation
  2. Tap Remove
  3. Confirm removal

To uninstall Smart Lighting:

  1. From the Smart Lighting main view, tap Remove
  2. Confirm removal


Multiple lighting automation creation tips:

After you install Smart Lighting and configure a lighting automation for the first time, Smart Lighting can then be found under SmartApps.

When creating subsequent lighting automations, the following path is recommended:

  1. Tap Automations
  2. Tap SmartApps
  3. Tap Smart Lighting
  4. Tap New Lighting Automation
  5. Follow the configuration steps
