How to connect Aeotec MultiSensors

The Aeotec MultiSensor is a battery-powered, all-in-one Z-Wave motion, temperature, humidity, and lighting sensor–rated for both indoor and outdoor use! The MultiSensor 6 is also equipped with a UV sensor.

This article will tell you how to connect the following Aeotec MultiSensors with the SmartThings Hub:

 

To connect the Aeotec MultiSensor Sensor to the SmartThings app

  • SmartThings app
  • SmartThings Classic app

In the SmartThings app:

  1. From the Home screen, touch the Plus (+) icon and select Add device
  2. Select Aeotec and touch Motion sensor
  3. Choose a Hub for the device and touch Next
  4. Choose a Room for the device and touch Next
  5. While the Hub searches, press the button once

 

To reset the Aeotec MultiSensor

If the Aeotec MultiSensor was not detected, you may need to reset, or “exclude,” the device before it can successfully connect with the SmartThings Hub. To do this in the SmartThings app:

  1. From the Home screen, touch Menu (Menu icon), and select Devices
  2. Touch the Hub and select More Options (More Options menu icon)
  3. Touch Z-Wave Utilities and select Z-Wave exclusion
  4. When prompted, press the button once

When the app indicates that the device was successfully removed from SmartThings, follow the instructions above to connect the Aeotec MultiSensor.

 

To connect the Aeotec MultiSensor in the SmartThings Classic app

From the SmartThings Classic mobile app:

  1. Touch My Home
  2. Under Things, tap Add a Thing at the bottom of your Things list
  3. The app will say Looking for devices…
  4. While the Hub searches, perform the inclusion procedure on the MultiSensor:
    • For the MultiSensor original and Gen 5, press the black button inside the battery cover once (to the right of the sensitivity dial)
    • For the MultiSensor 6, press the button once
  5. When the device is discovered, it will be listed at the top of the screen
  6. Touch the device to rename it and tap Done
  7. When finished, tap Save
  8. Tap Ok to confirm

 

To reset the Aeotec MultiSensor

If the Aeotec MultiSensor was not discovered, you may need to reset, or “exclude,” the device before it can successfully connect with the SmartThings Hub. To do this in the SmartThings Classic app:

  1. Touch the menu (Android) / More (iOS)
  2. Touch the Hub
  3. Touch Z-Wave Utilities
  4. Touch General Device Exclusion
  5. When prompted, perform the exclusion procedure on the MultiSensor:
    • For the MultiSensor original and Gen 5, press the black button inside the battery cover once (to the right of the sensitivity dial)
    • For the MultiSensor 6, press the button once

After the app indicates that the device was successfully removed from SmartThings, follow the first set of instructions above to connect the Aeotec MultiSensor.

 

To remove the Aeotec MultiSensor from SmartThings Classic

If the Aeotec MultiSensor is connected but not operating as normal, you may need to remove the device and reconnect it with the SmartThings Hub.

To remove the device via the SmartThings Classic app:

  1. Touch My Home
  2. Touch Things
  3. Select the device
  4. Touch the gear icon
  5. Touch Remove
  6. Confirm removal
  7. When prompted, perform the exclusion procedure to remove the device from the mobile app and from the SmartThings Hub
