Set up and connect the SmartThings Button

The SmartThings Button can control multiple lights, electronics, and small appliances to turn on and off. Customize actions with a single tap, double tap, or long press and the built-in temperature sensor. 

  • SmartThings app

Connect the SmartThings Button

  1. Bring the Button within 15 feet or 4.5 meters of the Hub.
  2. Open the SmartThings app on your phone and touch Add Device > Add Device Manually > Remote/button > SmartThings / IM6001-BTP01.
  3. Remove the battery tab on the Button marked REMOVE WHEN CONNECTING.
  4. From the SmartThings app, touch Next and scan the code on the back of the device.
  5. The SmartThings Hub will begin searching for your device. Once it is discovered, you can rename the device and touch Save > Done.
  6. Simply place the Button on a table or shelf or on a wall using the included adhesive.

To begin using your Button with SmartThings, touch on the device from the Devices tab and configure a Custom Automation.

 

Reset the SmartThings Button

  1. Using a paper clip or a small tool, hold down the recessed Connect button on the bottom of the Button for 5 seconds. Release the button when the LED light on the front starts blinking red.
  2. Once the Button has been reset, the LED will begin to blink green and red, indicating that the Button is attempting to connect.
  3. Use the SmartThings app and steps detailed above to reconnect your Button.

 

Requires a SmartThings Hub or compatible device with SmartThings Hub functionality.

How to connect the SmartThings Button in the SmartThings Classic app

In the SmartThings Classic mobile app:

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Under Things, tap Add a Thing at the bottom of your Things list
  3. The app will say Looking for devices…
  4. While the Hub searches, move the Button within 15 feet of the Hub and pull the battery tab
  5. When the device is discovered, it will be listed at the top of the screen
  6. Tap the device to rename it and tap Done
  7. When finished, tap Save
  8. Tap Ok to confirm

 

How to reset the SmartThings Button

If the SmartThings Button didn't connect to the Hub when you removed the pull-tab, reset and connect the device manually.

First, move the Button within 15 feet of the Hub.

  1. Hold down the Connect button on the Button for 5 seconds
  2. Release the button when the LED light starts blinking red

Next, put the Hub in join mode:

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Under Things, tap Add a Thing at the bottom of your Things list
  3. The app will say Looking for devices…
  4. The Hub should automatically discover your device within a couple of minutes
  5. Follow the in-app steps to name and save the device

 

How to remove the Button from the SmartThings Hub

If the Button is not performing as expected, you may need to reset the device and/or remove and reconnect the device with the SmartThings Hub.

To remove the device via the SmartThings Classic app:

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Tap Things
  3. Select the Button
  4. Tap the gear icon
  5. Tap Remove
  6. Confirm removal (this cannot be undone)
