What is SmartThings Find?

SmartThings Find ensures your Galaxy devices are safe and secure by letting you:

  • Monitor the location of your supported Galaxy devices
  • Locate your missing Galaxy devices with the help of millions of Samsung community members
  • Use Bluetooth detection to search for nearby devices



Which devices are supported by the SmartThings Find service?

SmartThings Find is available on Samsung Galaxy phones* and tablets running Android 10 or higher.

In addition to your mobile devices, SmartThings Find can be used to locate your Samsung Galaxy Watch 3, Galaxy Watch Active 2, Galaxy Buds Live, and Galaxy Buds +.

* For Verizon users, SmartThings Find is only available on Galaxy Note 20.



Adding SmartThings Find

After updating your SmartThings app, you will see SmartThings Find available on the home screen. To get started select SmartThings Find and follow these steps:

  1. Agree to accept the terms and conditions, privacy policies, and service agreements associated with the SmartThings find service
  2. Touch Done

If you do not see the SmartThings Find SmartApp on your home screen, you can manually add it using the steps below.

  1. Open the SmartThings App
  2. Touch the Plus (+) Sign in the top right and Choose SmartApp
  3. Select SmartThings Find and touch Done
  4. Select SmartThings Find on the SmartThings home screen



Search for Nearby Devices

The Search Nearby feature allows you to find Galaxy devices near your phone or tablet using Bluetooth. This feature is only available for the compatible devices listed here

To use the Search Nearby feature, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the SmartThings Find SmartApp
  2. Choose the device you would like to locate
  3. Touch Search Nearby
  4. Wait while your device searches your area via bluetooth
    • Note: The device your searching for must be within bluetooth range*
  5. The green area on screen will get larger as the signal of the device you are trying to find gets stronger
    • Select the Music Note icon to make the lost device ring

If your device is unable to connect to the bluetooth signal of the missing device, it will continue to search for the device in the background and send you a notification once it has been discovered.  

* The range of bluetooth devices is highly dependent on factors such as radio interference, the environment around the device, etc.



Find your Offline Devices 

With the SmartThings Find SmartApp, millions of Samsung community members can help find the last known location of your supported Galaxy device by anonymously detecting your missing devices via bluetooth. 

Offline device detection is only enabled if the device is marked as missing using the steps below. 

  1. Open the SmartThings Find SmartApp
  2. Choose your missing device
    • If the device does not show as missing, touch the refresh arrow
  3. Select the toggle next to Notify me when it’s found

If another Galaxy user detects your missing device, you will receive a notification with the last known location of that device. 

If you did not enable offline finding when you set up SmartThings find, use the steps below to enable it.

  1. Go to your phone/tablets settings
  2. Select Biometrics and security
  3. Choose Find My Mobile
  4. Toggle on Offline Finding



Get Directions to your Missing Device

Once your missing device is located, SmartThings Find will be able to give you directions using Google Maps. 

To get directions to your missing device, follow the steps below. 

  1. Open the SmartThings Find SmartApp
  2. Select the device you want to find
  3. Choose Navigate 

Your phone/tablet should now redirect to Google Maps and navigate you to the last known location of your device. 



Controlling your Galaxy devices with SmartThings Find

With SmartThings Find, you can control your Galaxy devices even if you have lost access. The options of control differ for spending on the device, but this can include locking the device, erasing the data, backing it up to the cloud, and more. 

To do this, follow the steps below. 

  1. Open the SmartThings Find SmartApp
  2. Select the device you would like to control 
  3. Choose More Options 

You will be redirected to the Find My Mobile service where you will be able to control your device.
