Rachio Smart Wi-Fi Sprinkler Controller

Keep your lawn beautiful and healthy while saving water and money! SmartThings and the Rachio Smart Wi-Fi Sprinkler Controller is the perfect combination to schedule your sprinklers to only water your plants when they need it!

This article will tell you how to connect the following Rachio devices with SmartThings:

Connect a Rachio device with SmartThings

 

1. Set up a Rachio account

Download and install the Rachio app for Android or iOS, and then create a Rachio account.

 

2. Set up the Rachio Sprinkler Controller

Follow the in-app instructions to connect the Rachio Sprinkler Controller to your Wi-Fi network

 

3. Connect Rachio through the SmartThings app

In the SmartThings mobile app:

  1. Tap Marketplace
  2. Under Things, tap Irrigation
  3. Tap Rachio Sprinkler Controller
  4. Tap Connect Now
  5. Tap to enter Rachio credentials
  6. Enter your Rachio username and password
  7. Tap Login
  8. Tap Allow Access
  9. Tap Done
  10. Tap Next to set up your sprinklers
  11. Tap Select your Sprinkler
  12. Select the sprinkler you wish to connect
    Note: You can only connect one sprinkler controller at a time
  13. Tap Select your Zones
  14. Select the zone(s) you wish to control and tap Done
  15. Toggle the switch for Disable Actions while on Standby to the ON or OFF state, depending on your preference
  16. If needed, tap Default Zone Runtime (Minutes) to adjust the runtime, if needed. (The default is 10 minutes)
  17. Tap Done to complete setup

 

Use and configure the Rachio within SmartThings

Access your device from the Things view within the SmartThings mobile app:

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Tap Things
  3. Tap the device

 

You can also automate your Rachio with SmartApps, such as turning on the sprinklers on a schedule through Smart Lights. To install related SmartApps:

  1. Tap Marketplace
  2. Tap SmartApps
  3. Tap Lights & Switches to install “Smart Lights”
  4. Choose the SmartApp and follow its on-screen installation instructions

 

Remove the Rachio from SmartThings

If the Rachio is connected but not operating as normal, you may need to remove and reconnect the device in order for it to successfully integrate with your SmartThings setup.

To remove the device from the SmartThings mobile app:

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Tap Things
  3. Tap the device
  4. Tap the gear icon
  5. Tap Edit Device
  6. Tap Remove
  7. Confirm removal (this cannot be undone)

Or remove the Rachio (Connect) SmartApp to disconnect all of your Rachio devices:

  1. Tap Automations
  2. Tap SmartApps
  3. Tap Rachio (Connect)
  4. Tap Remove
  5. Confirm removal
