How to add new devices in the Samsung Connect app

The Samsung Connect app provides easy setup for your smart devices and a single convenient app to control them. You can connect Samsung IoT devices, devices that work with SmartThings, Bluetooth devices, and other devices on your network.

Note: iOS does not support Bluetooth device control or monitoring.

To add a new device with SmartThings

Samsung SmartThings devices and many third-party devices that work with SmartThings require a connected SmartThings Hub (or compatible device with SmartThings Hub functionality) in the Samsung Connect app.

You can connect these devices manually with the steps below.

  1. Tap the plus icon in the bottom right
  2. Android: Tap Add Device Manually
  3. Select the device category and brand OR enter your device's name in the search field
  4. Follow the in-app instructions to perform the connection process specific to that device
  5. The app will indicate when the device connects
  6. Tap Edit to rename the device, and tap Done to save the name
  7. Tap Done to complete the setup

To add a Samsung IoT device

With the Samsung Connect app, you can connect various Samsung IoT devices, such as Samsung TVs, Audio Visual devices (AV), and Digital Appliances.

By simply opening the Samsung Connect app, it can automatically discover certain Samsung 2017 devices–which do not require SmartThings Hub functionality–and even prompt you to add the device with a simple popup window or push notification. If the popup doesn't appear, or you have an older Samsung IoT device, it's still easy to add compatible devices whenever you like.

Note: Only Android mobile devices support easy setup with auto-discovery. iOS mobile devices require adding devices manually.

Follow the steps below to add a Samsung IoT device manually in the Samsung Connect app:

  1. Tap the plus icon in the bottom right
  2. Select the device:
    • Android: Wait a moment for Samsung Connect to discover devices and select the device once it appears under Available devices OR tap Add device manually and select the device category (e.g., TV)
    • iOS: Select the device category (e.g., TV)
  3. Follow the in-app instructions
    • Once the device is discovered, they will require additional confirmation steps to connect to your network and register to your Samsung account. The steps vary depending on the individual device. For example, you may be prompted to enter the PIN that appears on your Samsung TV screen

To add a device on your network or with Bluetooth

Samsung Connect can connect to a broad spectrum of local area network (LAN) and Bluetooth devices–so many that there isn’t a full list of devices of this type that you can connect!

Note: iOS does not support Bluetooth or LAN device control or monitoring.

To discover Bluetooth or LAN devices in the Samsung Connect app:

  1. Tap the plus icon in the bottom right
  2. Wait a moment for Samsung Connect to discover devices and select the device once it appears under Available devices
    • LAN devices must be broadcasting on the same network and Bluetooth devices must be in discovery mode
  3. If prompted, follow the in-app instructions to confirm the identity of the device

Note: Bluetooth and LAN devices cannot be included in automations because they communicate directly to your mobile device (not the cloud) and cannot be controlled remotely.

To delete devices

There are two ways that devices can be deleted in the Samsung Connect app.

This first method offers the option to delete multiple devices at once.

  2. Tap the three dots in the top right
  3. Tap Delete devices
  4. Select the device(s) to be deleted

  7. If only a Z-Wave device was selected, the app will prompt you to perform a Z-Wave exclusion on the device. Refer to the device's manual for specific exclusion steps
Note: If multiple devices are selected, any Z-Wave devices will need to be excluded manually

The second method deletes devices on an individual basis.
