Adding a SmartThings Hub to your SmartThings app will allow you to connect to supported devices and the many third-party integrations that work with SmartThings.
Note: It is not recommended to add a SmartThings Hub to a Location with an existing Hub.

Set up a SmartThings Hub
In the SmartThings app:
- From the Home screen, touch the Plus (+) icon and select Add device
- Select SmartThings and touch SmartThings Hub (IM6001-V3) under Wi-Fi/Hub
- Choose a Location or Add a new Location for the device
- Choose a room or Add a new Room for the device
- Touch the map to set the geolocation
- Touch the bullseye icon in the top right to use your current location
- Touch and drag to move the location pin
- Pinch in or out to adjust the size of the geofence
- Touch Next
- Choose a Room or Add a new Room for the device
- Select how you'd like to connect your Hub by touching Wi-Fi or Ethernet
- Follow the in-app instructions to connect your Hub, which are reproduced here:
- Connect your Hub using the included power cable and, if necessary, network cable
- Don't unplug the Hub during the setup process. Setup will take 5-10 minutes to complete
- Touch Next
- Wait for the light to blink red and green on the front of the Hub and touch Next
- Using your mobile device's camera, scan the QR code located on the back of the Hub
- If necessary, touch OK to give SmartThings access to your camera
- If you're having trouble scanning the QR code, select Add device by serial number and enter the code manually
- Touch Next
- If you are setting up the Hub via Wi-Fi:
- Select your Wi-Fi network
- Enter your Wi-Fi network's password, then touch Connect
- Wait a few moments while your Hub is connected
- Touch Tap here to set a location to set a geolocation for your Hub
- Hold and drag the pin to your location, or enter your address manually
- Pinch and zoom the circle to set the size of the geolocation
- Touch Done
- When the Hub is successfully added, touch Done

Change a SmartThings Hub's Wi-Fi network
If you set up the SmartThings Hub over Wi-Fi and are experiencing network issues or need to change the network that the Hub is connected to, you can do so at any time in the SmartThings app:
- First, unplug the power cable from the back of your Hub. If you plugged the Hub in via Ethernet, remove the Ethernet cable, as well
- Once the Hub shows as "Disconnected" in the SmartThings app, go to the Home screen and select Menu (
) and touch the Settings gear icon
- Touch Update Wi-Fi information
- Select your SmartThings Hub, then tap Update
- Plug the power cable back into the Hub
- Using a pin or a similar tool, press and hold the reset button on the back of the Hub until the LED begins blinking green and red
- In the SmartThings app, touch Next
- Using your mobile device's camera, scan the QR code located on the back of the Hub or enter the serial number manually
- Select your Wi-Fi network
- Enter your Wi-Fi network's password, then touch Connect
- Once the Hub is connected, touch Done
Note: Changing the Wi-Fi network that the SmartThings Hub is connected to will not affect any existing devices, Scenes, or Automations.
Set up a SmartThings Hub v2 (2015)
In the SmartThings app:
- From the Home screen, touch the Plus (+) icon and select Add device
- Select SmartThings and touch SmartThings Hub (STH-ETH & Others) under Wi-Fi/Hub
- Choose a Location or Add a new Location for the device
- Touch the map to set the geolocation
- Touch the bullseye icon in the top right to use your current location
- Touch and drag to move the location pin
- Pinch in or out to adjust the size of the geofence
- Touch Next
- Choose a Room or Add a new Room for the device
- Follow the in-app instructions to connect your Hub, which are reproduced here:
- Connect your Hub using the included power and network cables.
- Don't unplug the Hub during the setup process. Setup will take 5-10 minutes to complete.
- Touch Next
- Enter the 6-character Welcome code that was packaged with the Hub and touch Next
- When the Hub is successfully added, tap Done
To start connecting devices, find your device here.
Delete a SmartThings Hub
NOTE: Deleting a SmartThings Hub means all devices connected to your Hub will have to be reset or excluded before they can be reconnected. All Automations and Scenes associated with that Hub will be lost, as well. However, the Hub will need to be factory reset before it can be claimed again. Click here to learn how to factory reset your SmartThings Hub.
- From the Home screen, select Menu (
) and touch Devices
- Select More Options (
) and touch Edit
- Touch the red minus icon next to the SmartThings Hub
- Touch Delete to confirm (this cannot be undone)
