How do I add my phone as a device?

How to add your phone or tablet as a mobile presence device during initial setup

The mobile presence feature gives SmartThings the ability to know when you come and go using the same location services that your smartphone or cellular-connected tablet uses every day.

When you first create a SmartThings account, we will ask for your permission to use these innate location services. If you say yes, your phone or tablet will be automatically recognized as a mobile presence device after you set up your Location.

NOTE: You cannot set up a tablet without cellular service as a mobile presence device.

 

How to add a phone or tablet as a device

You can enable this feature at any time by following these steps in the SmartThings app:

  1. Tap Marketplace
  2. Under Things, tap Sensors
  3. Tap Presence Sensors
  4. Tap Mobile Phone
  5. Tap Connect Now
  6. Give your device a name and select an image
  7. Tap Done

 

How to view, edit, or remove a mobile device

In the SmartThings app:

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Tap Things or Family
  3. Select the device
  4. Tap the gear icon

 

How to configure mobile presence alerts

Use Smart Home Monitor to configure a Custom alarm that will notify you when a mobile presence device comes and goes.
