Troubleshooting: Temperature reading for the SmartThings Multipurpose Sensor is off

The SmartThings Multipurpose and SmartSense Multi sensors are equipped with an internal temperature sensor to help you monitor and control local temperatures. The sensor within the multipurpose sensor is rated to be accurate plus or minus two degrees Fahrenheit. However, if the sensor experiences range or interference issues or wide temperature swings, it can temporarily report imprecise readings.

Pulling the batteries out of the sensor and re-inserting them will help the sensor recalibrate. However, this fix may not be permanent.

If the sensor consistently reports an inaccurate temperature, use the Temperature Offset feature in the SmartThings Classic app:

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Tap Things
  3. Tap the device
  4. Tap the gear icon
  5. Under Temperature Offset, tap Adjust temperature by this many degrees
  6. Enter the number of degrees. If the sensor consistently reports a temperature that is 5 degrees too warm, for example, enter "-5". If 3 degrees too cold, enter "3" or "+3"
  7. Tap Done after entering the desired number
  8. Tap Done again
