How to connect Sonos devices

Sonos devices are part of SmartThings Labs and have not been officially tested and certified to Work with SmartThings. You can connect them to your SmartThings home, but performance may vary and we will not be able to provide support or assistance.

SmartThings connected with Sonos can act as the voice of your home. SmartThings currently supports the following Sonos models, whether connected directly or through the Sonos BRIDGE:

 

To connect a Sonos device with SmartThings

First, set up your Sonos device through the Sonos iOS or Android app and www.sonos.com.

Second, in the SmartThings mobile app:

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Under Things, tap Add a Thing at the bottom of your Things list
  3. The app will say Looking for devices…
  4. Wait a moment for the Hub to automatically discover your device
  5. When the device is discovered, it will be listed at the top of the screen
  6. Tap the device to rename it and tap Done
  7. When finished, tap Save
  8. Tap Ok to confirm

Note: Your Sonos devices and the SmartThings Hub will have to be on the same local network in order to work together.

 

To use and configure Sonos devices within SmartThings

Access your Sonos devices from the Things view within the SmartThings mobile app:

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Tap Things
  3. Tap the device

 

You can also automate your Sonos speakers with SmartApps. To install related SmartApps:

  1. Tap Marketplace
  2. Tap SmartApps
  3. Tap Music & Sounds
  4. Choose the SmartApp and follow its on-screen installation instructions

 

Some SmartApps that work with Sonos include:

  • Speaker Control plays or pauses your Sonos when certain actions take place in your home.
  • Speaker Mood Music plays a selected song or station when certain actions take place in your home.

 

To remove Sonos devices from SmartThings

If a Sonos device is connected but not operating as normal, you may need to remove the device and reconnect it with the SmartThings Hub.

To remove the device via the SmartThings app:

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Tap Things
  3. Select the device
  4. Tap the gear icon
  5. Tap Edit Device
  6. Tap Remove
  7. Confirm removal (this cannot be undone)
