Ecolink Door/Window Sensor (DWZWAVE2-ECO)

If you're concerned about security, you might be interested in a sensor that will let you monitor entry points to your home. Or, you might be looking for convenient ways to automate your lights and appliances based on behavior in your home.

The Ecolink Door/Window Sensor (DWZWAVE2-ECO) allows you to do these things and more by keeping track of the open/closed status of doors and windows throughout your home. Combined with SmartThings, this Z-Wave sensor can be used to turn your lights on or off, adjust your thermostat, send notifications, sound alarms, or do all sorts of other things when a door or window opens or closes.

To connect the Ecolink Door/Window Sensor in the SmartThings app

In the SmartThings app:

  1. From the Home screen, touch the Plus (+) icon and select Add device
  2. Select Ecolink and touch Open/closed
  3. Choose a Hub for the device and touch Next
  4. Choose a Room for the device and touch Next
  5. While the Hub searches, pull the battery tab from the device

 

To reset the Ecolink Door/Window Sensor

If the Ecolink Door/Window Sensor was not discovered, you may need to reset, or “exclude,” the device before it can successfully connect with the SmartThings Hub. To do this:

  1. From the Home screen, touch Menu (Menu icon), and select Devices
  2. Touch the Hub and select More Options (More Options menu icon)
  3. Touch Z-Wave utilities and select Z-Wave exclusion
  4. Remove and reinsert the battery

When the app indicates that the device was successfully removed from SmartThings, follow the instructions above to connect the Ecolink Door/Window Sensor.

 

To connect the Ecolink Door/Window Sensor in the SmartThings Classic app

In the SmartThings Classic mobile app:

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Under Things, tap Add a Thing at the bottom of your Things list
  3. The app will say Looking for devices…
  4. While the Hub searches, remove the battery tab 
  5. When the device is discovered, it will be listed at the top of the screen
  6. Tap the device to rename it and tap Done
  7. When finished, tap Save
  8. Tap Ok to confirm

To reset the Ecolink Door/Window Sensor

If the Ecolink Door/Window Sensor was not discovered, you may need to reset, or “exclude,” the device before it can successfully connect with the SmartThings Hub. To do this in the SmartThings Classic mobile app:

  1. Tap the menu (Android) / More (iOS)
  2. Tap the Hub
  3. Tap Z-Wave Utilities
  4. Tap General Device Exclusion
  5. When you see the message "Please follow manufacturer's instructions to remove the Z-Wave device from My SmartThings," do the following:
    1. Remove the battery
    2. Re-insert the battery

After the app indicates that the device was successfully removed from SmartThings, follow the first set of instructions above to connect the Ecolink Door/Window Sensor.
