Ecolink PIR Motion Detector (PIRZWAVE2-ECO)

If you have ever wished you could keep a pair of eyes on your home at all times, well, wish no more. A smart motion sensor connected to your smart home lets you do essentially this.

The Ecolink PIR Motion Detector (PIRZWAVE2-ECO) offers a great way to monitor your home using SmartThings. This sensor utilizes the Z-Wave protocol and can be combined with SmartThings-compatible lights, switches, and sirens to create automations for any event. Its sensitivity can also be adjusted so that your cat or dog won't trigger a false alarm every time he strolls by.

 

 

To connect the Ecolink PIR Motion Detector with the SmartThings Hub

In the SmartThings mobile app:

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Under Things, tap Add a Thing at the bottom of your Things list
  3. The app will say Looking for devices…
  4. While the Hub searches, remove the sensor’s plastic pull-tab (the pull-tab must be removed to enable sensor operation)*
    • The sensor’s LED will turn red for approximately 10 seconds and then go out when it pairs with the Hub. If the LED continues to flash, repeat the pairing process*
  5. When the device is discovered, it will be listed at the top of the screen
  6. Tap the device to rename it and tap Done
  7. When finished, tap Save
  8. Tap Ok to confirm

* Note: If the pull-tab is already removed:

  1. Remove the sensor’s cover
  2. Remove the battery for at least 5 seconds
  3. Reinsert the battery
  4. Replace the cover

This will put the sensor in pairing/inclusion mode.

Alternatively, sensor inclusion mode can also be initiated by inserting a pin or paper clip into the small round hole on the back of the sensor.

 

To reset the Ecolink PIR Motion Detector

If the Ecolink PIR Motion Detector was not discovered, you may need to reset, or “exclude,” the device before it can successfully connect with the SmartThings Hub. To do this, in the SmartThings mobile app:

  1. Tap the menu (Android) / More (iOS)
  2. Tap the Hub
  3. Tap Z-Wave Utilities
  4. Tap General Device Exclusion
  5. When you see the message "Please follow manufacturer's instructions to remove the Z-Wave device from My SmartThings," do the following:
    1. Remove the sensor’s cover
    2. Remove the battery for at least 5 seconds
    3. Reinsert the battery
    4. Replace the cover

After the app indicates that the device was successfully removed from SmartThings, follow the first set of instructions above to connect the Ecolink PIR Motion Detector.

 

To remove the Ecolink PIR Motion Detector from SmartThings

If the Ecolink PIR Motion Detector is connected but not operating as normal, you may need to remove the device and reconnect it with the SmartThings Hub.

To remove the device via the SmartThings app:

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Tap Things
  3. Select the device
  4. Tap the gear icon
  5. Tap Remove
  6. Confirm removal
  7. When prompted, perform the exclusion procedure to remove the device from the mobile app and from the SmartThings Hub
