How to connect Enerwave switches and dimmers

Why reach for the light switch when you can control your lighting from your smartphone? Or better yet, why not automate your lights to turn on and off according to time of day, your arrival, a predetermined schedule, or activity in the home? Enerwave Z-Wave switches and dimmers are great for wireless manual and remote control. You can easily create the perfect ambiance and lighting scenes in your home with Enerwave and SmartThings.

This article will tell you how to connect the following Enerwave switches and dimmers with SmartThings:

Note: If you have the Enerwave Magnetic Door/Window Sensor (ZWN-BDS), follow these instructions. If you have the Enerwave Ceiling-Mounted PIR Motion Sensor (ZWN-BPC), follow these instructions.

 

To connect the Enerwave device with the SmartThings Hub

First, install the Enerwave device by following the instructions that came with the device.

Next, in the SmartThings mobile app:

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Under Things, tap Add a Thing at the bottom of your Things list
  3. The app will say Looking for devices…
  4. While the Hub searches, perform one of the following inclusion processes:
    • For in-wall switches and dimmers, press the push pad once (top or bottom)
    • For receptacles and plug-in modules, press the programming button once
  5. When the device is discovered, it will be listed at the top of the screen
  6. Tap the device to rename it and tap Done
  7. When finished, tap Save
  8. Tap Ok to confirm

 

To reset the Enerwave device

If the Enerwave device was not discovered, you may need to reset, or “exclude,” the device before it can successfully connect with the SmartThings Hub. To do this in the SmartThings mobile app:

  1. Tap the menu (Android) / More (iOS)
  2. Tap the Hub
  3. Tap Z-Wave Utilities
  4. Tap General Device Exclusion
  5. When you see the message "Please follow manufacturer's instructions to remove the Z-Wave device from My SmartThings," perform one of the following exclusion processes:
    • For in-wall switches and dimmers, press the push pad once (top or bottom)
    • For receptacles and plug-in modules, press the programming button once

After the app indicates that the device was successfully removed from SmartThings, follow the first set of instructions above to connect the Enerwave device.

 

To remove the Enerwave device from SmartThings

If the Enerwave device is connected but not operating as normal, you may need to remove the device and reconnect it with the SmartThings Hub.

To remove the device via the SmartThings app:

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Tap Things
  3. Select the device
  4. Tap the gear icon
  5. Tap Remove
  6. Confirm removal
  7. When prompted, perform the exclusion procedure to remove the device from the mobile app and from the SmartThings Hub
