GE In-Wall Smart Switch (45856GE) (ZigBee)

The GE In-Wall Smart Switch (45856GE) (ZigBee) easily replaces your old light switch, utilizes your home's existing wiring, and seamlessly integrates with 2- and 3-way systems. This smart switch is a ZigBee device, and it acts as repeater for other ZigBee devices on your network.

To connect the GE In-Wall Smart Switch in the SmartThings app

Setting up the GE In-Wall Smart Switch is just about as simple as, well, flipping a switch! Follow the directions below, and you'll be automating your home in no time.

In the SmartThings mobile app:

  1. From the Dashboard, tap Add device
  2. Android: Tap Add Device Manually
  3. Select Switch/dimmer
  4. Tap GE ZigBee
  5. If you have more than one SmartThings Hub connected, select the Location you would like to add the device to, then tap Done
    • When the switch is powered, it will automatically begin searching for a ZigBee network to pair with. The LED light on the face of the switch blinks to indicate the device is searching. If a timeout occurs, the LED stops blinking. To restart the pairing process, press the front-panel push-button
  6. When the device is discovered, a message will appear that the device was successfully connected to your SmartThings Hub
  7. Tap Edit to rename the device
  8. When finished, tap Done
  9. Tap Done again to confirm

 

To reset the GE In-Wall Smart Switch

If the switch wasn’t discovered, try manually resetting the device. Here's how:

  1. Quickly tap the top rocker of the switch 10 times
  2. The LED will start blinking to indicate the switch is searching for a network

After the LED starts blinking, follow the first set of instructions above to connect the switch.

 

To remove the GE In-Wall Smart Switch from SmartThings

If the GE In-Wall Smart Switch is connected but not operating as normal, you may need to remove the device and reconnect it with the SmartThings Hub.

To remove the device via the SmartThings app:

  1. From the Dashboard, tap on the Devices tab
  2. Tap the three dots in the top right
  3. Tap Edit
  4. Tap the red minus icon (-) next to the name of the device
  5. Confirm removal (this cannot be undone)

To connect the GE In-Wall Smart Switch in the SmartThings Classic app

  2. Under Things, tap Add a Thing at the bottom of your Things list
  3. The app will say Looking for devices…
    • When the switch is powered, it will automatically begin searching for a ZigBee network to pair with. The LED light on the face of the switch blinks to indicate the device is searching. If a timeout occurs, the LED stops blinking. To restart the pairing process, press the front-panel push-button
  4. When the device is discovered, it will be listed at the top of the screen
  5. Tap the device to rename it and tap Done
  6. When finished, tap Save
  7. Tap Ok to confirm

 

To reset the GE In-Wall Smart Switch
