How to connect GE ZigBee outlets

This article tells you how to connect the following GE ZigBee plug-in outlets to the SmartThings Hub:

  • SmartThings app
  • SmartThings Classic app

To connect the GE ZigBee outlet in the SmartThings app

Note: The GE ZigBee outlet is supported in the US, UK, and Singapore.

In the SmartThings mobile app:

  1. From the Dashboard, tap Add device
  2. Android: Tap Add Device Manually
  3. Select Outlet
  4. Tap GE ZigBee
  5. If you have more than one SmartThings Hub connected, select the Location you would like to add the device to, then tap Done
  6. While the Hub searches, plug the device in. The LED will begin blinking to indicate that it's attempting to pair
  7. When the device is discovered, a message will appear that the device was successfully connected to your SmartThings Hub
  8. Tap Edit to rename the device
  9. When finished, tap Done
  10. Tap Done again to confirm

 

To reset the GE ZigBee plug-in outlet

If the GE ZigBee outlet was not discovered, you may need to reset the device before it can successfully connect with the SmartThings Hub. To do this:

  1. Unplug the switch
  2. Put the SmartThings Hub in pairing mode by following steps 1-4 above
  3. Hold down the button on the front of the device (no longer than 4 seconds—if held for more than 4 seconds, the device will fail to reset)
  4. While holding the button, plug in the device
  5. Release the button immediately
  6. The LED should begin blinking, showing the device is ready to pair

When the device starts blinking, the Hub should discover the device. Then, follow the in-app prompts to name and save the GE ZigBee outlet.

 

To remove the GE ZigBee plug-in outlet

If the GE ZigBee outlet is connected but not operating as normal, you may need to remove the device and reconnect it with the SmartThings Hub.

To remove the device via the SmartThings app:

  1. From the Dashboard, tap on the Devices tab
  2. Tap the three dots in the top right
  3. Tap Edit
  4. Tap the red minus icon (-) next to the name of the device
  5. Confirm removal (this cannot be undone)

 

To connect the GE ZigBee outlet in the SmartThings Classic app

In the SmartThings Classic mobile app:

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Under Things, tap Add a Thing at the bottom of your Things list
  3. The app will say Looking for devices…
  4. While the Hub searches, plug the device in. The LED will begin blinking to indicate that it's attempting to pair
  5. When the device is discovered, it will be listed at the top of the screen
  6. Tap the device to rename it and tap Done
  7. When finished, tap Save
  8. Tap Ok to confirm

 

To reset the GE ZigBee plug-in outlet

If the GE ZigBee outlet was not discovered, you may need to reset the device before it can successfully connect with the SmartThings Hub. To do this in the SmartThings Classic app:

  1. Unplug the switch
  2. Put the SmartThings Hub in pairing mode by following steps 1-3 above
  3. Hold down the button on the front of the device (no longer than 4 seconds—if held for more than 4 seconds, the device will fail to reset)
  4. While holding the button, plug in the device
  5. Release the button immediately
  6. The LED should begin blinking, showing the device is ready to pair

When the device starts blinking, the Hub should discover the device. Then, follow the in-app prompts to name and save the GE ZigBee outlet.

 

To remove the GE ZigBee plug-in outlet
