What happens during an Incident

Configure SmartThings Home Monitor

In the SmartThings mobile app:

  1. From the Home screen, touch the Plus (+) icon and select SmartApp
  2. Select SmartThings Home Monitor

When configuring SmartThings Home Monitor, you will be prompted to set rules for different alarm states:

Arm (Away): The home is unoccupied and you want monitoring by all sensors.

Arm (Stay): The home is occupied and you want monitoring by select sensors.

Disarm: You want to disarm all monitoring and alarms.

Arm (Away) and Arm (Stay) alarm states can be triggered from the SmartThings Home Monitor main view. Tap the buttons to switch between alarm states or to disarm alarms.

Configure Security alerts

In the SmartThings mobile app:

  1. From the Home screen, touch SmartThings Home Monitor
  2. Touch the three dots in the top right
  3. Touch Settings
  4. Select Security
  5. Configure Armed/Away Intrusion Sensors
  6. Touch Next
  7. Configure Armed/Stay Intrusion Sensors
  8. Touch Next
  9. Configure the following alarms and notifications:
    • Push Notifications
    • Audio Notifications
    • Turn on Lights
    • Turn on Siren
  10. Touch Next
  11. Configure the following security mode reminders:
    • Reminders to arm the system when all members leave
    • Reminders to disarm the system when any member arrives
  12. Select members for reminders:
    1. Touch Members
    2. Select which members
    3. Touch Done
  13. Touch Next
  14. Touch Done
  15. Touch Allow to confirm

Configure Smoke alerts

  1. From the Home screen, touch SmartThings Home Monitor
  2. Touch the three dots in the top right
  3. Touch Settings
  4. Select Smoke
  5. Configure Monitored devices
  6. Configure the following alarms and notifications:
    • Text & Push Notifications
    • Audio Notifications
    • Alert with Sirens
    • Alert with Lights
  7. Touch Next
  8. Touch Done
  9. Touch Allow to confirm

Configure Leaks alerts

  1. From the Home screen, touch SmartThings Home Monitor
  2. Touch the three dots in the top right
  3. Touch Settings
  4. Select Leaks
  5. Configure Monitored devices
  6. Configure the following alarms and notifications:
    • Text & Push Notifications
    • Audio Notifications
    • Alert with Sirens
    • Alert with Lights
  7. Configure Actions (e.g., close valves and turn off switches)
  8. Touch Next
  9. Touch Done
  10. Touch Allow to confirm

There are many things you can do with SmartThings Home Monitor: Get a text message when the door opens and you’re away, turn on your lights when there's motion in your living room, or even activate a siren when an intrusion is detected.

Monitor your home using SmartThings Home Monitor

From the Home screen, touch SmartThings Home Monitor. This is where you'll see the current status of your configured SmartThings Home Monitor alerts (Security, Smoke, Water Leak). With one quick glance, you can rest assured that all is well.

Arm (Away) and Arm (Stay) alarm states can be triggered from the SmartThings Home Monitor main view. Touch the buttons to switch between alarm states or to disarm alarms.

What happens during an incident

SmartThings Home Monitor will report Total Incidents, and the alarm categories will indicate what type of incident occurred.

For example, if a door opened, Security will turn from green to red and a Details message will appear.

View an incident

Touch Details.

The following time-stamped details will be available (depending on your configurations):

  • Name of sensor that detected motion, contact, etc.
  • Confirmation that alarms, sirens, and lights were triggered

You will have the option to Mute Sirens or to Dismiss the incident entirely.

Dismiss an incident

In the SmartThings mobile app:

  1. From the Home screen, touch SmartThings Home Monitor
  2. Touch Dismiss next to the alert
  3. Touch Yes to confirm

History

Shows recent activity and past incidents.

To see your SmartThings Home Monitor history:

  1. From the Home screen, touch SmartThings Home Monitor
  2. Touch the History icon

This will show you which device(s) detected activity, when the incident occurred, and when the incident was dismissed.
