How to connect and reset a ZigBee Kwikset lock

These instructions apply to the following ZigBee locks:

Note: The above Kwikset locks are also available in Z-Wave models. Consult the documentation that came with your lock if you’re unsure which communication protocol it uses (ZigBee or Z-Wave).

If needed, follow these instructions for how to connect a Z-Wave Kwikset lock.

 

  • SmartThings app
  • SmartThings Classic app

Connect a ZigBee Kwikset lock in the SmartThings app

Tip: Place the lock within 10-15 feet of the SmartThings Hub during initial pairing.

In the SmartThings mobile app:

  1. From the Home screen, touch the Plus (+) icon and select Add device
  2. Select Kwikset
  3. Choose a Hub for the device and touch Next
  4. Choose a Room for the device and touch Next
  5. If you have more than one SmartThings Hub connected, select the Location you would like to add the device to, then tap Done
  6. While the Hub searches,
    • Remove the battery cover
    • Press the “A” button four (4) times

To reset a ZigBee Kwikset lock

If the ZigBee Kwikset lock is not performing as expected, you may need to reset the device and reconnect it with the SmartThings Hub.

  1. Remove the battery cover
  2. Press the “B” button nine (9) times
  3. Wait for the lock to remove, then press the “A” button four (4) times

Once reset, the lock is then ready to be reconnected with the SmartThings Hub. Follow the first set of instructions above to connect the ZigBee lock.

Connect a ZigBee Kwikset lock in the SmartThings Classic app

Tip: Place the lock within 10-15 feet of the SmartThings Hub during initial pairing.

In the SmartThings Classic mobile app:

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Under Things, tap Add a Thing at the bottom of your Things list
  3. The app will say Looking for devices…
  4. While the Hub searches,
    • Remove the battery cover
    • Press the “A” button four (4) times

To reset a ZigBee Kwikset lock

If the ZigBee Kwikset lock is not performing as expected, you may need to reset the device and reconnect it with the SmartThings Hub.

First, remove the device via the SmartThings Classic app:

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Tap Things
  3. Tap the device you wish to remove
  4. Tap the gear icon
  5. Tap Remove
  6. Confirm removal (this cannot be undone)

Next, physically reset the device:

  1. Remove the battery cover
  2. Press the “B” button nine (9) times
  3. Wait for the lock to remove, then press the “A” button four (4) times

Once reset, the lock is then ready to be reconnected with the SmartThings Hub. Follow the first set of instructions above to connect the ZigBee lock.
