How to connect D-Link cameras

Note: D-Link Cameras are a part of SmartThings Labs and do not officially Work with SmartThings. You can connect them to your SmartThings home, but performance may vary and we will not be able to provide support or assistance.

With the Samsung SmartThings Hub (Hub v2), you can enjoy event-based video clip recording through Smart Home Monitor and live streaming video within Things and Rooms.

This article will tell you how to connect the following D-Link cameras with SmartThings.

 

How to set up a new camera

Connect a D-Link camera with the SmartThings Hub:

  1. In the SmartThings mobile app, tap Marketplace
  2. Under the Things view, tap SmartThings Labs
  3. Select your D-Link camera model
  4. Tap Connect Now
  5. Tap Setup New Camera
  6. Follow the in-app instructions for powering up the camera
  7. Tap Next
  8. Wait for the SmartThings Hub to automatically discover the D-Link camera
  9. Select the discovered camera
  10. Tap Next
  11. When prompted, create a password for the camera
    • Below Enter Camera Password, tap Tap to set
    • Enter a password
    • The password can have up to 63 characters
  12. Tap Next
  13. Wait for the message, “Password accepted!”
  14. Tap Next
  15. Configure the camera to communicate wirelessly via Wi-Fi (see steps below)
    OR choose Skip Wireless Setup
  16. Tap Done to complete setup and installation

 

Enable camera to communicate wirelessly via Wi-Fi (optional):

Note: The D-Link camera and the SmartThings Hub must be on the same network. The DCS-2310L model does not support wireless communication.

  1. When prompted during the D-Link Connect process, choose Tap to select Network to configure the camera to communicate via Wi-Fi
  2. Tap to select your Wi-Fi network from a list, OR type in the network name
  3. Enter the password for the Wi-Fi network
  4. Tap Next
  5. Follow the in-app instructions to disconnect the ethernet cable
  6. Tap Next
  7. Tap Done to complete setup and installation

 

How to set up an existing camera

Follow these steps if you have previously installed a D-Link camera and now want to connect it with the SmartThings v2 Hub.

  1. In the SmartThings mobile app, tap Marketplace
  2. Under the Things view, tap SmartThings Labs
  3. Select your D-Link camera model
  4. Tap Connect Now
  5. Tap Connect to Existing Camera
  6. Wait for the SmartThings Hub to automatically discover the D-Link camera
  7. Select the discovered camera
  8. Tap Next
  9. When prompted, enter the camera’s password
  10. Tap Next
  11. Wait for the message, “Password accepted!”
  12. Tap Next
  13. Tap Done to complete setup and installation

 

How to change camera settings

To configure or change settings for a connected camera:

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Tap Things
  3. Select the camera
  4. Tap the gear icon

 

How to remove a camera from SmartThings

If the camera is connected but not operating as normal, you may need to remove the device and reconnect it with the SmartThings Hub.

To remove the device via the SmartThings app:

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Tap Things
  3. Select the device
  4. Tap the gear icon
  5. Tap Edit Device
  6. Tap Remove
  7. Confirm removal (this cannot be undone)

 

Known errors

Error messages

Error messages may appear if you enter the wrong camera password (for an existing camera) or the wrong network password. Follow the in-app instructions to resolve the indicated error.
