Set up and connect the SmartThings Outlet

Connect the SmartThings Outlet to control lights, electronics, and small appliances from anywhere, or set them to turn on and off at different times of the day.

Note: The SmartThings Outlet also works as a repeater for other Zigbee devices.

  • SmartThings app
  • SmartThings Classic app

Connect the SmartThings Outlet

  1. Plug in the Outlet within 15 feet or 4.5 meters of the SmartThings Hub.
  2. Open the SmartThings app on your phone and touch Add Device > Add Device Manually > Outlet > SmartThings IM6001-OTP01.
  3. From the SmartThings app, touch Next and scan the code on the back of the device.
  4. The SmartThings Hub will begin searching for your device. Once it is discovered, you can rename the device and touch Save > Done.
  5. Plug the Outlet into a wall receptacle to control your lamps, electronics, and small appliances.

 

Reset the SmartThings Outlet

  1. Press and hold down the Connect button on the top of the Outlet for 5 seconds. Release the button when the LED light on the front starts blinking blue.
  2. Once the Outlet has been reset, the LED will begin to blink green and red, indicating that the Outlet is attempting to connect.
  3. Use the SmartThings app and steps detailed above to reconnect your Outlet.

 

Requires a SmartThings Hub or compatible device with SmartThings Hub functionality.

How to connect the SmartThings Outlet in the SmartThings Classic app

Follow the instructions below or consult the Outlet’s Quick-Start Guide at the bottom of this article.

In the SmartThings Classic mobile app:

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Under Things, tap Add a Thing at the bottom of your Things list
  3. The app will say Looking for devices…
  4. While the Hub searches, plug in the Outlet
  5. When the device is discovered, it will be listed at the top of the screen
  6. Tap the device to rename it and tap Done
  7. When finished, tap Save
  8. Tap Ok to confirm

 

How to reset the SmartThings Outlet

If the SmartThings Outlet didn't connect to the Hub when you plugged it in, reset and connect the device manually.

If you're unsure about which version of the SmartThings Outlet you own, click here.

First, move the outlet within 15 feet of the SmartThings Hub. Then, in the SmartThings Classic app:

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Under Things, tap Add a Thing at the bottom of your Things list
  3. The app will say Looking for devices…

Next, reset the outlet:

  1. Hold the Outlet’s Connect button for 5 seconds
  2. Release the button when the LED starts blinking blue

Then, back in the SmartThings Classic app:

  1. The Hub should automatically discover the device within a couple of minutes
  2. When the device is discovered, it will be listed at the top of the screen
  3. Tap the device to rename it and tap Done
  4. When finished, tap Save
  5. Tap Ok to confirm

 

How to remove the Outlet from the SmartThings Hub

If the Outlet is not performing as expected, you may need to reset the device and/or remove and reconnect the device with the SmartThings Hub.

To remove the device via the SmartThings Classic app:

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Tap Things
  3. Select the Outlet
  4. Tap the gear icon
  5. Tap Remove
  6. Confirm removal (this cannot be undone)
