Samsung Digital Appliances FAQ

NOTE: Samsung Digital Appliances are not available in all regions.

Do I need a Samsung Smart Home account to connect my appliance with SmartThings?

Yes, you will need to create a Samsung Smart Home account. To do so, download and install the Samsung Smart Home app for iOS or Android.

The appliance won’t connect to Wi-Fi, what should I do?

Make sure you are using the correct Wi-Fi network and password.

Also, most Samsung home appliances are unable to connect to 5GHz Wi-Fi bands. Be sure to use a 2.4GHz network.

Do all SmartThings Hubs support Samsung Digital Appliances?

No, the first-generation SmartThings Hub (Hub v1) does not support Samsung Digital Appliances.

Do the appliance and the SmartThings Hub need to be on the same network?

Yes. To control and automate an appliance with SmartThings, it must be connected to the same network as the SmartThings Hub.

Does my phone have to be on the same network as well?

No. However, your phone must have an active internet connection in order to communicate with the Hub and the appliance through the SmartThings app and cloud.

How do I control the appliance through the SmartThings app?

Go to the Samsung Digital Appliances section of our Help Center and click on your appliance(s) to see exactly how to connect and control it with SmartThings.

What should I do if the SmartThings app can’t find any available devices?

Try the following:

  • Make sure the appliance is powered and connected to Wi-Fi. For dongle-compatible appliances without built-in Wi-Fi capabilities, make sure the Wi-Fi dongle is installed correctly.
  • Verify that the SmartThings Hub and the appliance are on the same network.
  • Make sure the appliance is registered with the Samsung Smart Home app.

What should I do if the appliance stops responding to commands from SmartThings?

To remove an appliance:

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Tap Things
  3. Tap the appliance

My appliance reacts quickly to commands from Samsung Smart Home but is slow to respond to SmartThings. Is this normal?

This is to be expected. With Samsung Smart Home, your phone communicates directly with the appliance over your local Wi-Fi, but this limits use to your home network.

SmartThings allows you to control your appliances and receive notifications, no matter where you are in the world. With SmartThings, you can also create Routines that tell your appliances to automatically perform actions based on events and schedules. This robust architecture adds a small delay to all commands, which can sometimes be noticeable.
