Netgear Arlo Wire-Free Camera

With the Netgear Arlo Wire-free HD Security Camera, you can enjoy event-based video clip recording through Smart Home Monitor and live streaming video within Things and Rooms. The Arlo camera includes motion sensor capabilities and is compatible with both the SmartThings Hub v1 and Samsung SmartThings Hub v2!

Note: The Netgear base station is required to connect compatible Arlo cameras with SmartThings.

Connect the Arlo Wire-Free Camera with the SmartThings Hub

 

1. Set up an Arlo account

Download and install the Arlo app for iOS or Android, and then create an Arlo account.

 

2. Install the Arlo Camera

Follow the Arlo Camera user’s guide to install the camera and connect it to Wi-Fi with the Netgear base station.

 

3. Connect the camera through the SmartThings app

In the SmartThings mobile app:

  1. Tap Marketplace
  2. Under Things, tap Cameras
  3. Tap Netgear Arlo Wire-free Camera
  4. Tap Connect Now
  5. Tap the field that says Tap to enter Credentials
  6. Sign in to your Arlo account
  7. Accept the agreement to connect your Arlo account with SmartThings by tapping Accept
  8. Tap Connect to Arlo
  9. Tap Connect these Arlo Cameras to choose your camera devices
  10. Select the camera(s) you wish to connect with SmartThings
  11. Tap Done
  12. Tap Next
  13. Tap Done again to complete setup

 

Connect additional Arlo Wire-Free Cameras

Tip: If you previously connected an Arlo Camera with SmartThings and later install another camera, follow these steps to set up the new camera with SmartThings:

  1. Tap Marketplace
  2. Under Things, tap Cameras
  3. Tap Netgear Arlo Wire-free Camera
  4. Tap Connect Now
  5. Tap Connect to Arlo
  6. Tap Connect these Arlo Cameras to choose your camera devices
  7. Select the camera(s) you wish to connect with SmartThings
  8. Tap Done
  9. Tap Next
  10. Tap Done again to complete setup

 

Use and configure the Arlo Wire-Free Camera within SmartThings

Access your camera from the Things view within the SmartThings mobile app:

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Tap Things
  3. Tap the device

 

You can also automate your Arlo Camera with Smart Home Monitor to trigger video recording. Note: You can only select up to 10 cameras within Smart Home Monitor.

To install Smart Home Monitor:

  1. Go to the Dashboard
  2. Tap the gear icon
  3. Tap the alert type you want to configure
  4. Scroll to “Capture video from these cameras”
  5. Tap Select Cameras
  6. Tap Select cameras
  7. Check the box for the camera(s) you wish to use
  8. Tap Done
  9. Tap to set the recorded clip length (30 seconds, 1 minute, or 2 minutes)
  10. Tap Done
  11. Tap Done again
  12. Tap Done to finalize configuration

 

Remove the Arlo Wire-Free Camera from SmartThings

If the Arlo Camera is connected but not operating as normal, you may need to remove and reconnect the device in order for it to successfully integrate with your SmartThings setup.

To remove the device from the SmartThings mobile app:

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Tap Things
  3. Tap the camera
  4. Tap the gear icon
  5. Tap Edit Device
  6. Tap Remove
  7. Confirm removal (this cannot be undone)

 

Arlo (Connect) SmartApp

The Arlo (Connect) SmartApp will automatically appear in the SmartApps screen after successful connection of an Arlo device. To access the SmartApp:

  1. Tap Automations
  2. Tap SmartApps
  3. Tap Arlo (Connect)

 

To remove the Arlo (Connect) SmartApp and disconnect your Arlo camera(s):

  1. Tap Automations
  2. Tap SmartApps
  3. Tap Arlo (Connect)
  4. Tap Remove
  5. Confirm removal (this cannot be undone)
