With Netgear Arlo Cameras, you can enjoy event-based video clip recording through Smart Home Monitor and live streaming video within Things and Rooms. The Arlo cameras include motion sensor capabilities and are compatible with both the SmartThings Hub v1 and Samsung SmartThings Hub v2!
Note: You can only connect the cameras on your Arlo account to a single SmartThings Location.

How do the different Netgear Arlo Cameras compare?

This article will tell you how to connect the following Netgear Arlo cameras with SmartThings:
- Netgear Arlo Wire-free HD Security Camera*
- Netgear Arlo Wire-free Pro HD Security Camera*
- Netgear Arlo Q HD Security Camera
- Netgear Arlo Q Plus HD Security Camera
*Note: A Netgear base station is required to connect the Arlo Wire-free and Arlo Wire-free Pro cameras with SmartThings. Also, all Arlo devices must have the latest Arlo firmware for complete functionality within SmartThings.
Connect the Netgear Arlo Camera with the SmartThings Hub
1. Set up an Arlo account
Download and install the Arlo app for iOS or Android, and then create an Arlo account.
2. Install the Arlo Camera
Follow the Arlo Camera user’s guide to install the camera and connect it to Wi-Fi.
Note: The Netgear base station is required to connect the Arlo Wire-free and Arlo Wire-free Pro cameras with SmartThings.
3. Connect the camera through the SmartThings app
In the SmartThings mobile app:
- Tap Marketplace

- Under Things, tap Cameras
- Select your Netgear Arlo camera
- Tap Connect Now
- Tap the field that says Tap here to enter Arlo Credentials
- Enter your Netgear Arlo email address and password and tap Sign in
- Accept the agreement to connect your Arlo account with SmartThings by tapping Accept
- Tap Done to choose which cameras to add to SmartThings
- Select the camera(s) you wish to connect with SmartThings and tap Done
- Tap Done again to complete setup
Connect additional Netgear Arlo Cameras
Tip: If you previously connected a Netgear Arlo Camera with SmartThings and later install another camera, follow these steps to set up the new camera with SmartThings:
- Tap Marketplace

- Under Things, tap Cameras
- Select your Netgear Arlo camera
- Tap Connect Now
- Tap Use these Arlo Cameras
- Select the new camera(s) you wish to connect with SmartThings and tap Done
- Tap Done again to save
Use and configure the Netgear Arlo Camera within SmartThings
Access your camera from the Things view within the SmartThings mobile app:
- Tap My Home

- Tap Things
- Tap the device
You can also automate your Netgear Arlo Camera with Smart Home Monitor to trigger video recording. Note: You can only select up to 10 cameras within Smart Home Monitor.
To install Smart Home Monitor:
- Go to the Dashboard

- Tap the gear icon

- Tap the alert type you want to configure
- Scroll to “Capture video from these cameras”
- Tap Select Cameras
- Tap Select cameras
- Check the box for the camera(s) you wish to use
- Tap Done
- Tap to set the recorded clip length (30 seconds, 1 minute, or 2 minutes)
- Tap Done
- Tap Done again
- Tap Done to finalize configuration
Remove the Netgear Arlo Camera from SmartThings
If the Netgear Arlo Camera is connected but not operating as normal, you may need to remove and reconnect the device in order for it to successfully integrate with your SmartThings setup.
To remove the device from the SmartThings mobile app:
- Tap My Home

- Tap Things
- Tap the camera
- Tap the gear icon

- Tap Edit Device
- Tap Remove
- Confirm removal (this cannot be undone)
Or remove the Arlo (Connect) SmartApp to disconnect all of your Arlo devices:
- Tap Automations

- Tap SmartApps
- Tap Arlo (Connect)
- Tap Remove
- Confirm removal (this cannot be undone)
