How to reset ZigBee bulbs

If your ZigBee bulb(s) is not discovered or is not performing as expected, you may need to reset the bulb and/or remove and reconnect it with the SmartThings Hub.


If needed, first remove the bulb in the SmartThings app:

  • SmartThings app
  • SmartThings Classic app
  1. From the Home screen, touch the menu (Menu icon), and select Devices
  2. Touch more options (More Options menu icon)
  3. Tap Edit
  4. Tap the red minus icon (-) next to the name of the device
  5. Confirm removal (this cannot be undone)
  1. Tap My Home
  2. Tap Things
  3. Tap the device you wish to remove
  4. Tap the gear icon
  5. Tap Remove
  6. Confirm removal (this cannot be undone)


To physically reset, find your ZigBee bulb below and follow the corresponding steps.

To physically reset an SYLVANIA bulb, run five power cycles as detailed below (a power cycle is the act of turning something on and off).

Note: To turn the SYLVANIA bulb on and off: Turn it on and off with the lamp or wall switch, OR unscrew it by hand.

  1. Turn ON the light for 5 seconds
  2. Turn OFF the light for 5 seconds
  3. Repeat this process 5 times (ON for 5 seconds + OFF for 5 seconds = 1 time)
  4. After the fifth time, switch the light ON and wait 10 seconds
  5. The light will then blink 3 times if successfully reset
  6. Repeat the process if the light doesn’t blink


Sylvania Ultra iQ LED BR30 Bulb

To physically reset the Sylvania Ultra bulb:

  1. Start with the Sylvania bulb in the ON position
  2. Turn the bulb OFF and ON 8 times in a row
    • Pause for 1 second each time you turn the bulb ON or OFF
  3. After the eighth time OFF, turn ON the bulb and leave it ON
  4. Wait about 5 seconds
  5. The Sylvania bulb will flash if successfully reset


NOTE: If you repeat the reset steps, the Sylvania bulb will NOT flash again. A light bulb that has been successfully reset will not flash again after another reset.


Cree Connected LED Bulb

To physically reset the Cree Connected LED Bulb:

  1. Make sure the bulb is installed and turned ON
  2. In the SmartThings app, tap My Home
  3. Turn the bulb OFF for 2 seconds, and then turn it ON for 1 second*
  4. Repeat the step above three more times for a total of four OFF/ON cycles
  5. After the fourth cycle, the bulb should then blink to indicate it has been reset
  6. Turn the bulb OFF (do not wait for more than about a second here)
  7. Now back in the SmartThings app, tap Add a Thing at the bottom of your Things list
  8. The app will indicate the Hub is searching for new devices
  9. Turn the bulb ON
  10. The app should discover the bulb within a few moments

*NOTE: Try to time this as consistently as possible. If exactly 2 seconds between ON and OFF events isn't showing results, try approximately 1.5 seconds instead of 2.


Sengled Element Touch

To physically reset the Sengled Bulb:

  1. Press and hold the button on the bulb for 20 seconds
  2. The bulb will blink 5 times, followed by a subtle pulsing to indicate it is in pairing mode


GE Link LED Bulb

To physically reset the GE Link bulb

  1. Turn OFF the light for 3 seconds
  2. Turn ON the light for 3 seconds
  3. Repeat this process 5 times (OFF for 3 seconds + ON for 3 seconds = 1 time)
  4. The bulb will then flash once if successfully reset
  5. After the bulb is reset, follow the first set of instructions above to connect the GE Link LED Bulb (starting with the light switched OFF)


Belkin WeMo LED Bulb (F7C033)

To physically reset the Belkin WeMo bulb

  1. Start with the bulb ON
  2. Turn OFF the bulb for 1 second
  3. Turn ON the bulb for 3-4 seconds
  4. Turn OFF the bulb for 1 second
  5. Turn ON the bulb for 3-4 seconds
  6. Turn OFF the bulb for 1 second
  7. Turn ON the bulb
  8. Wait until the bulb begins to blink (after about 5 seconds)
