Honeywell Z-Wave Outlets, Switches, and Dimmers

Here's a bright idea: Using SmartThings with Honeywell Z-Wave Outlets, Switches, and Dimmers, you can control your lights at the tap of a button, create complex lighting automations, and monitor your smart home when you're not there.

 

This article will tell you how to connect the following Honeywell devices:

  • SmartThings app
  • SmartThings Classic app

To connect the Honeywell device in the SmartThings app

First, install the Honeywell device according to its installation instructions.

Next, in the SmartThings mobile app:

  1. From the Home screen, touch the Plus (+) icon and select Add device
  2. Select Honeywell and touch Switch/dimmer or Outlet
  3. Choose a Hub for the device and touch Next
  4. Choose a Room for the device and touch Next
  5. While the Hub searches:
    • For outlets or plug-in modules, press the button once
    • For switches and dimmers, press up the switch once 

To reset the Honeywell device

If the Honeywell device was not discovered, you may need to reset, or “exclude,” the device before it can successfully connect with the SmartThings Hub. To do this, in the SmartThings mobile app:

  1. From the Home screen, touch Menu (Menu icon), and select Devices
  2. Touch the Hub and select More Options (More Options menu icon)
  3. Touch Z-Wave utilities and select Z-Wave exclusion
  4. When prompted:
    • For outlets or plug-in modules, press the button once
    • For switches and dimmers, press up the switch once

After the app indicates that the device was successfully removed from SmartThings, follow the first set of instructions above to connect the Honeywell device.

 

To connect the Honeywell device in the SmartThings Classic app

First, install the Honeywell device according to its installation instructions.

Next, in the SmartThings Classic mobile app:

  1. Tap My Home
  2. Under Things, tap Add a Thing at the bottom of your Things list
  3. The app will say Looking for devices…
  4. While the Hub searches:
    • For outlets or plug-in modules, press the programming button once
    • For paddle switches, press the top rocker on the device
    • For toggle switches, press up on the toggle switch
  5. When the device is discovered, it will be listed at the top of the screen
  6. Tap the device to rename it and tap Done
  7. When finished, tap Save
  8. Tap Ok to confirm

 

To reset the Honeywell device

If the Honeywell device was not discovered, you may need to reset, or “exclude,” the device before it can successfully connect with the SmartThings Hub. To do this, in the SmartThings Classic mobile app:

  1. Tap the menu (Android) / More (iOS)
  2. Tap the Hub
  3. Tap Z-Wave Utilities
  4. Tap General Device Exclusion
  5. When prompted:
    • For outlets or plug-in modules, press the programming button once
    • For paddle switches, press the top rocker on the device
    • For toggle switches, press up on the toggle switch

After the app indicates that the device was successfully removed from SmartThings, follow the first set of instructions above to connect the Honeywell device.
