How to connect Eaton ASPIRE switches and outlets

The following Eaton ASPIRE Z-Wave outlets, switches, and dimmers can be connected to SmartThings:

  • Eaton Z-Wave Wireless Smart Dimmer 600W (RF9540-NDW)
  • Eaton Z-Wave Wireless Smart Switch (RF9501DW)
  • Eaton Z-Wave Wireless Duplex Receptacle 15A (RFTR9505-TAW)
  • Eaton Z-Wave Appliance Control Module (RFAPM)
  • Eaton Z-Wave Lamp Dimming Module (RFLDM)

 

To connect the Eaton ASPIRE device

In the SmartThings mobile app:

  1. From the Dashboard, tap Add device
  2. Android: Tap Add Device Manually
  3. For outlets:
    1. Select Outlet
    2. Tap Eaton ASPIRE
  4. For switches:
    1. Select Switch/dimmer
    2. Tap Eaton ASPIRE
  5. If you have more than one SmartThings Hub connected, select the Location you would like to add the device to, then tap Done
  6. While the Hub searches:
    • For switches, press the bottom rocker once
    • For outlets, press the button once
  7. When the device is discovered, a message will appear that the device was successfully connected to your SmartThings Hub
  8. Tap Edit to rename the device
  9. When finished, tap Done
  10. Tap Done again to confirm

 

To reset the Eaton ASPIRE device

If the Eaton ASPIRE device was not discovered, you may need to reset, or “exclude,” the device before it can successfully connect with the SmartThings Hub. To do this in the SmartThings mobile app:

  1. From the Dashboard, tap on the Devices tab
  2. Tap the Hub
  3. Tap the three dots in the top right
  4. Tap Z-Wave exclusion
  5. When prompted:
    • For switches, press the bottom rocker once
    • For outlets, press the button once

After the app indicates that the device was successfully removed from SmartThings, follow the first set of instructions above to connect the Eaton ASPIRE device.

 

To remove the Eaton ASPIRE device from SmartThings

If the Eaton ASPIRE device is connected but not operating as normal, you may need to remove the device and reconnect it with the SmartThings Hub.

To remove the device via the SmartThings app:

  1. From the Dashboard, tap on the Devices tab
  2. Tap the three dots in the top right
  3. Tap Edit
  4. Tap the red minus icon (-) next to the name of the device
  5. Confirm removal (this cannot be undone)
  6. When prompted, perform the exclusion procedure to remove the device from the mobile app and from the SmartThings Hub
