Amazon Echo

SmartThings can connect with Amazon Echo as a Hub Service to give you command of your smart home through voice controls.

 

To get started:

  1. Download the SmartThings app and create an account
  2. Set up your Amazon Echo and download the Amazon Echo app

 

To connect SmartThings with Amazon Echo:

  1. In the Amazon Echo app, select Settings
  2. Select Connected Home
  3. Under Device Links, select Link with SmartThings
  4. Enter your SmartThings email and password
  5. Tap Log in
  6. Select your SmartThings Location in the From: dropdown menu
  7. My device list will populate with your SmartThings on/off switches, dimmer switches, and thermostats
  8. Check the boxes beside the devices you want to give Amazon Echo access to
  9. Tap Authorize
  10. You will see this message: “Alexa has been successfully linked with SmartThings.”
  11. Close the window by tapping x

The app will automatically return you to the Settings page for Connected Home. From here, direct Amazon Echo to discover the devices you have authorized access to:

  1. Under Devices, select Discover devices, OR
    Say, “Alexa, discover new devices.”
  2. The app will show a progress bar while Alexa is looking for devices
  3. Wait for the “Discovery Complete” message
  4. Discovered devices will populate under Devices; offline devices will be grayed out

You can then interact with these connected devices using Echo’s hands-free voice control.

Try out these phrases:

“Alexa, turn on/off the bedroom light.”

“Alexa, dim/brighten the kitchen light.”

“Alexa, set the bedroom light to 10.” (Brightness can be modified on a scale of 0 - 100.)

“Alexa, raise/lower kitchen thermostat by 10 degrees.”

“Alexa, set kitchen thermostat to 70 degrees.”

 

To update controllable devices through SmartThings:

Once connected with Amazon Echo, the SmartThings mobile app will allow you to configure which devices are controllable. Simply use the steps below.

You should also follow these steps to add a new device to an existing setup.

  1. In the SmartThings app, tap the menu 
  2. Tap SmartApps 
  3. Tap Amazon Echo
  4. My device list will list the devices Amazon Echo has access to
  5. Tap My device list to see all your SmartThings switches
  6. Check the boxes beside the devices you want to give Amazon Echo access to
  7. 완료를 누릅니다.
  8. Tap Next and follow the in-app Device Discovery instructions
  9. Done(완료) 을 다시 누릅니다.

 

To disconnect SmartThings from Amazon Echo:

Uninstalling the Amazon Echo SmartApp within SmartThings will completely disconnect Alexa and your devices. Your Amazon Echo will no longer accept verbal commands for SmartThings devices.

  1. In the SmartThings app, tap the menu 
  2. Tap SmartApps 
  3. Tap Amazon Echo
  4. Remove(제거)를 누릅니다.
  5. 제거를 확인합니다.

And:

  1. In the Amazon Echo app, select Settings
  2. Select Connected Home
  3. Under Device Links, select Unlink from SmartThings
  4. Confirm by tapping Unlink
