Voice assistants allow you to control your devices without ever opening the SmartThings app. Before enabling voice assistants with SmartThings, you must set up your voice-enabled device in the manufacturer’s app.

Connecting Voice Services
Once you have set up your voice service, choose from the options below to connect them to your SmartThings setup.
Setting up Bixby with your Samsung account will automatically connect it with your SmartThings devices. Simply say “Hi, Bixby” to begin controlling your smart home.
SmartThings works with certified Google Assistant devices and can be used to control lighting, plugs, thermostats (US only), and Scenes configured with SmartThings. Google can also check the status of motion and contact sensors.
Note: Adding Google assistant to SmartThings will enable it for all locations under your account.
- From the SmartThings app, select the Menu (☰)
- Choose Voice assistant and select Google Assistant
- Read the instructions listed and tap Open Google Assistant
- You will automatically be directed to the Google Assistant app
- Select Set up
- Tap Add (+) at the bottom right
- Select SmartThings from the list (Use the magnifying glass to quickly search the list)
- Tap Authorize
- All devices and Scenes from your Locations will be authorized
- You can assign your devices to rooms, or tap Done and Got it
SmartThings works with certified Alexa devices and can be used to control light bulbs, on/off switches, dimmer switches, thermostats, locks, and Scenes configured with SmartThings. Alexa can also check the status of motion and contact sensors.
Note: Adding Amazon Alexa to SmartThings will enable it for all locations under your account.
- From the SmartThings app, select the Menu (☰)
- Choose Voice assistant and select Amazon Alexa
- You will automatically be directed to the Amazon App
- Tap Enable to use for SmartThings
- Choose Authorize
- Once authorized, the following message appears: “Alexa has been successfully linked with SmartThings.”
- Tap X to close the window and begin device discovery
Removing Voice Services
In the event your voice assistant is no longer working as expected or is no longer needed, you can remove Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa using the steps below.
- From the SmartThings app, select the Menu (☰)
- Select Settings (⚙)
- Choose Linked services
- Tap Google Assistant or Alexa
- Choose Uninstall
- Tap Delete
- Confirm removal
Bixby utilizes your Samsung account to automatically link with SmartThings and cannot be removed at this time.
