Invite family and friends to your Location in the SmartThings app to let them view and control your devices and Routines.
Members have almost the same permissions on the Location as the owner, with a few exceptions:
- Members cannot add or remove other members
- Members cannot delete a Location. They can only leave the Location and relinquish access
Invite shared users to SmartThings
Before starting, ensure the new member has downloaded the SmartThings app and logged in with a Samsung Account.
There are two ways to invite a Member to your Location–with a Samsung Account or a QR Code.
To invite a member, navigate to and open the SmartThings app.
- Select the Home Icon (🏠) at the top left
- Choose Manage locations ⚙ and select the desired Location
- Tap Invite Member (+) and select Send an invitation
- Enter the Samsung Account and tap Invite
Once the user receives the invitation, they can accept it in their SmartThings app, and will have access to the Location, associated devices, and Routines.
To invite a member, navigate to and open the SmartThings app.
- Select the Home Icon (🏠) at the top left
- Choose Manage locations ⚙ and select the desired Location
- Tap Invite Member (+) and select Use a QR code
The invitee can now scan the QR code on their phone. They will need to navigate to SmartThings follow these steps:
- Select the Home Icon (🏠) at the top left
- Choose Manage locations ⚙ and tap More Options (⋮)
- Select Accept QR code invitation and scan the owner's QR code
The invited member will now have access to the Location and the associated devices & Routines
View owners and members of a Location
Both owners and members can view the full list of users shared to a Location using the steps below.
- Select the Home Icon (🏠) at the top left
- Choose Manage locations ⚙ and select the desired Location
- Tap Members
The app will display the names of those who have access to the Location along with a designation as the owner or a member
Remove a member from a Location
Only the Owner of a Location can remove Members from a Location. Members can leave a Location on their own.
Members cannot delete a Location from SmartThings.
If you are the owner of a location and want to remove a user, navigate to and open the SmartThings app.
- Select the Home Icon (🏠) at the top left
- Choose Manage locations ⚙ and select the desired Location
- Tap Members and select More Options (⋮)
- Choose Remove members and select the Members to be removed
- Tap Remove and confirm by selecting Remove again
If you are a member of a location and want to remove yourself, navigate to and open the SmartThings app
- Select the Home Icon (🏠) at the top left
- Choose Manage locations ⚙ and select the desired Location
- Tap Leave Location and select Leave to confirm
